Abstract
In recent years much data has accumulated concerning the possible role of the cytoskeleton in cell membrane excitability. It was shown that colchicine which disrupts intracellular microtubules (MT), blocks the axolemma K+ -channels (Terakawa and Watanabe, 1976), K+, Ca2+ and Cl− -channels of Aplysia neuronal membrane (Baux et al., 1981). Two articles have appeared (Moran and Varela, 1971; Schafer and Reagan, 1981) which describe that colchicine inhibits the cockroach spine mechanoreceptor electrical responses and this effect might be due to specific disruption of dendritic MT. NT’s structural integrity is necessary for generation of electric potentials in crustacean stretch receptors (Witte, 1980). We continued the investigation of this problem and studied the influence of colchicine on generator potentials (GP) of single Pacinian corpuscles isolated from the mesentery of cats.
