Abstract

The anticancer drug cis-diamminedichloroplatinum(II) (cis-DDP or cisplatin), is believed to kill cells by blocking DNA replication or transcription (Roberts and Thomson, 1979; Sorenson and Eastman, 1988a, b). cis-DDP-DNA adducts have been shown to block DNA replication in vitro (Pinto and Lippard, 1985b; Heiger-Bernays et al., 1990) and in vivo (Harder and Rosenberg, 1970; Howie and Gale, 1970; Ciccarelli et al., 1985). Similar recent studies have shown that selected platinum adducts also inhibit RNA polymerases (Corda et al., 1991).
