Control and Regulation

Abstract

Once a system is operating, it must be controlled; that is, its operation must be regulated so that it will continue to meet expectations and move in the direction of the intended goals. Steady-state conditions, as found in physical systems, are unattainable when considering human organizations and social systems. Rather, we look for progress toward goals and some sort of self-regulation which depends on the characteristics of the system components and their relationship.
