Abstract
The ultrasonic pulse echo method has proved itself to be useful for nondestructive inspection (NDI). It has found practical use in the detection of internal flaws e.g. delaminations and voids in carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP). Video images such as B- and C-scan based on U.S. (ultrasonic) data are useful to represent internal defects. These U.S. data provide amplitudes of echo signals and the time of flight of each echo peak. We have developed a digital peak detector which obtains this information accurately in frequencies as high as 10 kHz.
The experimental system using three DPDs easily located Teflon sheets placed in layers from the second (0.4 mm depth) to the twenty eighth layer.
