Sexual Differentiation of the Brain

  • Chapter
Postnatal Growth Neurobiology

Abstract

It is abundantly clear that men and women are different—different in their genetic composition, their structure, and their behavior. Whether some of these differences can be attributed to differentiation of CNS mechanisms, brought about as a result of changes in the hormonal environment at a critical stage of brain development, is an important and intriguing question. But before considering this issue, it is as well to recall all the fundamental bases of the differences between sexes.
