Abstract
The ending of a program of marital therapy or marriage counseling has many of the same elements-as the termination of any other kind of therÂapy. There may be a recurrence of symptoms and an unwillingness to give up the dependent relationship with the therapist. There can be expressions of sadness, separation anxiety, or other emotions just when you expect the greatest improvement. It is important that these trends be recognized for what they are and that they be discussed with the couple without discouragement.
