Elimination of Styphnic Acid from Plant Effluents

Abstract

The chief aim of the usual methods for eliminating styphnic acid from plant effluents resulting from the manufacture of lead styphnate is to avoid explosive hazards. They are based on the destruction of styphnic acid, either by oxidation or by reduction. Their main disadvantage is the formation of toxic reaction products and the toxic reagents added in some cases.
