Orchestrating Discipline-Based Research and Learning

Abstract

There can be little doubt that the nature of the demands being made on university research and teaching have been changing, particularly over the last ten to fifteen years. We are experiencing increasingly urgent calls for more holistic, interdisciplinary approaches to problems and for greater collaboration and networking between institutions and researchers, nationally and internationally (Hicks and Katz, 1996). This stems from a greater emphasis on practical application of research results.
