A Systems Approach to Strategic IS Integration

Abstract

This paper considers strategic Information System (IS) integration from a systems perspective. First it considers the changing role of Information Technology (IT) over the last two decades from localised technologies to process wide IS integration. A discussion of the limitations of systems methodologies follows. This discusses the use of systems modelling to aid IS integration. The paper then proposes a decision based mechanism which evaluates information flows in the business process from a holistic perspective. This mechanism consists of three modules: Audit, Assessment and Suggestion which identify information bottlenecks and appraise possible IT investments from operational, strategic and financial viewpoints.
