Let us consider the cartesian coordinate system of Fig. 2.1 and a homogeneous, isotropic, lossless, nondispersive medium described by parameters ε and μ. We are examining a possible solution for the fields independent of coordinates (x, y) (plane waves), so that e = e(z, t) and h = h(z, t).
