Abstract

From 1991 to 1993, 50,862 cases (461.4 per 100,000 inhabitants) of optic and peripheral neuropathy (NEE) of unknown etiology were reported in Cuba (1–4). First cases and highest incidence were observed in Pinar del Rio province. Incidence rates peaked in March and April 1993 when there were 3000 to 4000 new cases per week. There were no fatal cases.
