Abstract

Essential role of selenium (Se) for animals and man has been well established during the past three decades. Se is genetically incorporated into active centre of some enzymes, i.e. four glutathione peroxidases which are parts of antioxidative defence system (1), and iodothyronine 5′deiodinase I, which plays a substantial role in thyroid hormone regulation (2).
