Abstract
Having now studied the free oscillations of harmonic oscillators and RLC series circuits, let us consider the behavior of these systems when they are acted on by external influences. Using mechanical notation, we shall discuss the solutions of the equation of motion when an additional force term is present, given explicitly as a function of t. Then we shall specialize to the case in which this term is a sinusoidal function of t, and, in later chapters, shall generalize the time dependence of the applied force.
