Abstract

Clive Humby, an American mathematician, stated that “data is the new oil.” This is an analogy that suits quite well. As with raw oil, you cannot really work with raw data. To get meaningful insights from raw data you first have to process it. Another accurate facet of this analogy is the importance of both oil and data. In our current society oil is important as the basis for fuel for transportation, as well as for all the things that are made of plastic. Meanwhile, data is very important as the basis for business decisions.
