Abstract
As much as I would like you to just start writing code, it is imperative that we do a bit of talking so that you will understand how your code is structured. In this chapter, we cover a bit of theory of embedded systems which gives you the background you need to follow along with the rest of the book. In the last chapter, we looked at an overview of some basic electronics, and in this chapter, we look at the embedded system as a whole to better understand where microcontrollers fit into the entire scope of things. Indeed, the contents of this chapter alone can occupy a book by itself! This chapter is necessarily long and gives you principles that will last throughout your career.
