Abstract
Over $45 billion of private equity and public IPO (initial public offering) investment has been made in cybersecurity companies from 2003 to 2020, yet the mega-breaches have continued. This chapter covers where all this money has been going and what categories of defenses have been invested in thus far. We then go on to analyze what areas of cybersecurity are ripe for further investment. As an example, areas such as Internet of Things (IoT) security and privacy, among others, have received less as compared to, say, network security and probably warrant more investment going forward.
