Abstract

In the previous chapter, we went through the resiliency offered by Istio to improve service availability and durability by abstracting the complexity out from the code to the Envoy proxy. In a production environment, there is always a time when it might fail. This can be determined by the data collected from the system, which can then be prepared accordingly. Metrics collection is an important part of any system, but in a distributed system, it is difficult to simply read the data and make sense out of it quickly. There are open source tools that help in the collection and visualization of data. We will go through a couple of them in this chapter.
