While freelancing platforms are the obvious choice for those looking to get started with freelancing (hence the name), they are but one option. And actually, thinking outside the box can help you to find untapped opportunities and avoid direct competition.

Of course, these techniques will work best when targeting smaller organizations, start-ups, and entrepreneurs. For larger projects and clients, the decision will likely not be made so quickly and may even come down to a whole procurement department or at least a team meeting. Depending on the type of projects you are looking for, you should adjust your approach accordingly.
