There are plenty of times when planning for performance can be an afterthought, especially when trying to release a minimum viable product (MVP) to market. Depending on how a platform is initially engineered, there can be less difficult ways to “back in” performance gains. Most applications that are moved through the MVP stage and have functionality rapidly bolted on to meet consumer or stakeholder demands can run into problems accommodating extra requests while maintaining a consistent user experience.
