Abstract

Another area of database systems that has become widespread since the 1990s is web-accessible databases. The proliferation of these databases is strongly correlated to the growth of the World Wide Web; both phenomena have become part and parcel of the 21st century lifestyle, and there is no indication that they will cease to be so in the foreseeable future. This chapter provides an overview of web-accessible databases. The chapter proceeds under the following subheadings.
