Abstract

It has now been more than a dozen years since I began researching individual differences in desire for control. Many of my predictions about the differences between high and low desire for control people have been supported, but a number of my initial expectations have not. I came to recognize somewhere during this work that my real interest, which surely has shown through in this book, was to better understand the high desire for control person rather than the low. At times I have been guilty of thinking of low desire for control people simply as those lacking this need. Nonetheless, looking back on more than a hundred studies conducted by me and dozens of other researchers, I think I can see a fairly consistent picture of this high desire for control individual I have been tracking all these years.
