Dementia and the Patient—II

Abstract

There are other causes of dementia than AD and MID, though the conditions are much less common and thus have generated less research interest. Nevertheless, each has its influence on the population, and each has investigators who are studying the syndrome and its effects. The surveys in this chapter are of necessity briefer because there is not the corpus of literature that exists for Alzheimer’s and multiinfarct dementia. As a concluding section, we will examine some of the research in progress, largely in the drug field, where efforts are underway to discover chemicals that will reduce the effects of adverse symptoms found in dementia patients.
