Management Systems for Evolving Networks
The products of advanced information technology are required to perform complex tasks and for this reason must themselves be correspondingly complex. They consist typically of large numbers of sub-systems with complicated patterns of interconnectivity. In addition, they must be able to respond to demands that are essentially unpredictable in terms of their times of arrival and perhaps also in terms of their content. In these broad terms, many high-technology products are ‘complex stochastic systems’.
