Respiratory Effects of “Renzhong Xue” in Rabbits

Abstract

“Renzhong xue” (also called “Suigou xue”)is an acupuncture locus used in respiratory and cardiovascular rescue since ancient time. According to Chinese historical records Shiji, Bian Que (350 –? B. C.) successfully rescued Prince Guo from hemorrhage shock by acupuncturing the “Renzhong xue”. The “Renzhong xue” is located at the middle of the sulcus nasolabial. Corresponding region in animals is considered to be the location of animal “Renzhong”, although it is still debated whether the principle of xue (means locus or point) identification is similarly applicable to animals. Figure 1 shows the location of “Renzhong xue” in human and rabbit. Modern studies have shown that acupuncturing this locus did affect the blood pressure and respiration in patient with shock. In the present study we further investigated the effects of “Renzhong xue” with special reference on its effects on respiration.
