Abstract

This was the first admission to Ohio State University Hospitals for this previously healthy 38-year-old white male. Four days prior to admission he began manifesting epigastric pain with radiation to the back. The discomfort began in the morning shortly after eating, and persisted throughout the day. He presented to his local hospital where he was admitted with an amylase of 250 U/dl and a triglyceride level of 2,500 mg/dl.
