Abstract

Psychotherapy is inevitably an integrative activity when conducted with groups of persons. The presence of persons in addition to the practitioner and patient introduces certain variables associated with the social psychology of groups. The therapeutic efforts that ensue are a combination of psychotherapy and group process, whether or not the therapist explicitly attends to the process, or whether the therapist considers group dynamics to be a distraction to the therapeutic process or the very essence of it (Kissen, 1981).
