Abstract
The focus of this chapter is a modification of the conventional models of short term dynamic psychotherapy (STDP) (McCullough, 1991,1992). Although this approach retains the fundamental components of its short-term precursors (Davan-loo, 1980; Malan, 1979; Mann, 1973; Sifneos, 1979); it differs in three ways: (1) the use of supportive and self-psychological approaches to reduce rather than provoke anxiety; (2) the intentional incorporation of behavioral, gestalt, psychodynamic, and self-psychological techniques to achieve treatment goals; and (3) the concrete operationaliza-tion of treatment techniques.
