Strong and Weak Statements in the Theory of Dipolar (e,2e) Impact Ionization
The correct theory must be predictable. This is an axiom. We beleive that a single ionization of targets by fast projectile electrons, or (e,2e)-experiments can supply us with a new information about delicate and subtle atomic effects, and an aim of the theory is to identify them. The dipolar kinematics of (e,2e) experiments in this respect are the most debatable. The matter of fact that even in the case of fast incident electrons the matrix element includes the overlap of initial and final targets’ wave functions which in turn are very complex objects. Using more or less crude models of these wave functions for calculations we are not only able to predict something but even differ between models. Thus we must look for special kinematical conditions to make definite theoretical conclusions.
