Coherence in Atomic Collision Physics

Part of the book series: Perspectives on Individual Differences ((PIDF))

Abstract

The investigation of spin effects is an effort to probe the electron-atom collision process in greater detail than is possible through conventional cross-section measurements. This effort is part of a broad study of coherence in atomic collision physics that has been reviewed by a number of authors in a volume edited by Kleinpoppen and Williams.(1) The present chapter is part of a review of the progress made since then. Studies of coherence and polarization in electron-collision physics have been reviewed previously also by Hanne,(2) Blum and Kleinpoppen,(3) Slevin,(4) and Kessler.(5)
