Quantum Phase Diffusion Noise Measurements in a CW Optical Parametric Oscillator

Abstract

It has long been predicted that the phase difference between the signal and idler subharmonic outputs of an optical parametric oscillator (OPO) undergoes a random walk process, similar to the phase diffusion of a laser [1]. In this work, we present what is, to our knowledge, the first measurements of the quantum phase diffusion noise of a cw OPO.
