Urban Political Images in Search of a Historical Context

  • Michael H. Frisch
Part of the Environment, Development, and Public Policy book series (EDPC)

This chapter originated with a broad contemporary curiosity that led to a set of quite specific historical questions about Progressive-era urban reform. The research ended up turning on the question of urban images as a historical problem—how and why they occur as they do and how they change over time. In particular, the investigation required me to explore in detail the sources, structure, and consequences of urban imagery in the emerging academic discipline of political science.
