A Historical Overview and General Principles of Child Development
The purpose of this brief overview is to introduce the reader to the notion that developmental theory is a body of knowledge which is constantly changing and evolving. Just like the individual of any age, it has a past, a future, and a dynamic present; and the study of any one aspect will increase understanding of the others. In addition, an awareness that much of developmental theory is clinically derived—and clinically useful—may stimulate an interest in further study.
