Abstract
Yamazaki et al. (1985) were able to demonstrate an influence of the hematopoietic system on H-2-associated urine odors. H-2 is the designation of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) of the mouse and is located on chromosome 17. The MHC was originally identified by its role in transplant rejection, but it is now recognized that proteins encoded in this region are involved in many aspects of immunological recognition. H-2 congenic imbred mice differ genetically only in the H-2 but not in the rest of their genomes, syngeneic mice share both haplotypes of the H-2, and semiallogeneic share one of the two haplotypes of the H-2.
