Auxin-Binding Proteins and their Possible Role in Cell Development
The standard approach toward understanding cell communication has been to utilize genetic or biochemical methods to first identify elements in signal pathways then to use biochemical methods to establish the physical relationships between these elements. Typically, a signal-regulated response such as gene expression is identified or a putative receptor is identified and then from these respective positions one “walks back” to the receptor or “walks forward” to the response. For the type of communication imparted by auxins in plant cells, both putative receptors and rapid responses have been identified. The walk has started and the question is whether or not the respective research groups will soon meet in the middle, having completed a signal transduction chain.
