Epithermal-Neutron Beam Design for Neutron Capture Therapy at the Tsing-Hua Open Pool Reactor (THOR)
Epithermal neutron beams are currently being developed for use in Neutron Capture Therapy (NCT). They have the advantage over thermal neutron beams in that they can achieve better penetration and can therefore treat deep-seated tumors. It has been shown that the optimum energy range for epithermal neutrons is approximately from 0.5eV to 10keV1; energy above that will cause significant damage due to proton recoil.
