The use of a dsRNA, stabilized against hydrolysis by enzymes in primate serum, in the treatment of AIDS and tropical spastic paraparesis (TSP), is described. This compound, poly inosinic.polycytidylic acid, stabilized with a complex of polylysine and carboxymethylcellulose, (PolyICLC), was given i.m. to AIDS patients with and without Zidovudine (AZT). In TSP it was given alone, i.m. The drug was well-tolerated in both groups of patients. Side effects were mild, consisting of a mild myalgia and very slight fever. Some beneficial effects are described.
