Abstract

There is increasing awareness of the advantages of non-radioactive labels for heterogeneous, high sensitivity immunoassays. One of the most common systems is the enzyme immunoassay with colorimetric or fluorometric determination. However, because of the steady increase in signal as the reaction progresses, the signal development time (usually 15–30 min) must be accurately controlled, and the reaction stopped by reagent addition at a specific time. Chemiluminescence reactions provide an alternative end-point for such assays.
