The Development of the Ideal Self
Life is not experienced as a succession of moments or days, each existing in isolation from the others. Each individual views himself as evolving in complicated but comprehensible ways over time. A man may remember himself as a shy adolescent and view his current introversion as an extension of the same tendency. Another man might view his interest in biology and chemistry as the foundation for a career in medicine.
