Abstract
The contribution of three-body potentials to the binding energy of heavy atoms has been obtained and is found to be well below the accuracy of current calculations.
The ambiguity in the definition of the projection operators in the configuration space Hamiltonian can be exploited to show that many of the numerical calculations that have been done without projection operators are in fact justified. The difference between calculational methods can imply different projection operators but it can be shown that the difference in the energy implied by the various forms of these operators is below the accuracy of current computation. The Cargese term is discussed.
