Abstract

In this review recent experiments with the single atom maser, on laser cooled ions in a trap, and on Rydberg atoms in crossed electric and magnetic fields will be reviewed. In the latter experiment the electric dipole moment of the atoms in the external fields is determined. For this purpose the deflection of the atoms in an inhomogeneous electric field was investigated.
