Electroabsorption Modulators for Broadband Fiber Electro-Optic Field Sensors

  • Chapter
Applications of Photonic Technology 2

Abstract

In this paper, the design of a fiber electro-optic field sensor is reported. The electro-optic field probes of these sensors rely on MQW electroabsorption waveguide modulators, that are well suited for broadband electromagnetic field measurements, since they exhibit both, strong electro-optic effects and large bandwidth. Experimentally, frequency response measurements have been performed, showing cut-off frequencies up to 70GHz.
