Plasma Waveguide: Density Development and High Intensity Guiding

Abstract

Recent experiments characterizing the formation, development, and guiding properties of a plasma channel suitable for the guiding of high intensity sub-100 fs laser pulses from a chirped pulse Ti:Sapphire laser system are presented. Time and space resolved interferometry measurements of the plasma density evolution have allowed for the precise determination of the channel size, depth and local uniformity of the guide and have provided the experimental details necessary for the determination of the physical mechanisms involved in its evolution.
