Our current aphasia classifications have developed in a context of neurological diagnosis. The possibility of drawing firm conclusions on the localization and type of pathology was a central concern in a classification system. With the introduction of refined neuroradiological methods for localizing lesions, there has been renewed interest in localization studies. The major concern of such studies today is to answer whether accepted views on the neurological basis of language functions are essentialy correct.
