Classification of Systemic Vasculitis — A Pathologist’s View

  • Chapter
ANCA-Associated Vasculitides

Part of the book series: Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology ((AEMB,volume 336))

Abstract

Systemic vasculitides form a heterogenous group of disorders which share as a common pathological feature an inflammatory reaction of blood vessels of varying size and at varying sites. Primary and secondary forms of vasculitis can be differentiated. Since little is known of the precise pathogenesis of these conditions, the morphological features are still one of the most important aspects in classifying the different vasculitides.
