Cerebrovascular disease is considered to be the second most common cause of dementia in older adults (see Chapter 6). Several cerebrovascular conditions can produce a dementia syndrome, and clinical features can vary considerably for different causes; however, by tradition, these disorders are often combined into a general category of vascular dementia.
