Abstract

Most people have had the experience of feeling “down” or uninterested in the daily routine. These feelings seldom interfere with work or social activities, and they usually resolve spontaneously within a few hours or days. In depressive illness, however, mood disturbance is more severe and persistent and may be accompanied by other physical, cognitive, or emotional changes.
