Abstract
The human brain, suspended in fluid, protected by a tough layer of tissue called the dura mater, and enclosed in a bony vault, is nevertheless exposed to numerous afflictions including trauma, tumors, vascular accidents, infection, attack from toxic substances, and demyelinating and degenerative diseases. We shall limit our discussion to trauma.
