Abstract

An analysis of the current state of gas and plasma lasers is given. The basic trends and factors limiting the efficiency of these lasers are described. The quasiequilibrium distributions over the vibrational, rotational, and electronic levels which play an important role in research on the physical kinetics of lasers are discussed.
