The Execute Engine

The useful work of the machine is done in two major sections: the Register File and the Execute Unit. The Register File section contains the register memory cell array and the bypass network. The Execute Unit includes the shifter, the ALU, and registers to support multiplication and division. Together, these two units comprise less than 15% of the total chip area.
