As in the previous chapter, I examine here some of the behavioral effects produced by stimulation and lesions of the septal area, beginning with those of a general nature and proceeding to ones of greater specificity. The purpose is to understand the nature and diversity of these changes and hopefully to place them in a more general context based on the relationship of the septal area to the hypothalamus and other limbic system structures.
